The Central North Dakota Cancer Registry is a joint venture of Sanford Health Bismarck and CHI St. Alexius Health. The Registry captures data and provides research assistance for both medical centers, Bismarck Cancer Center, their physicians and administration. Hundreds of pieces of data are recorded about every cancer diagnosis and treatment at these facilities, using computer codes assigned to define and compare how the war on cancer is being won. The data is a resource for surgeons, medical oncologists and radiation oncologists to determine the best course of treatment.

Cancer registries in Bismarck and around the world track where cancer occurs, both organically and geographically.  The most frequently diagnosed cancers in North Dakota are breast, prostate, colorectal, and lung cancers.  

This map shows where patients who are treated at Sanford Health, CHI St. Alexius Health, and Bismarck Cancer Center are living at the time of cancer diagnosis. The larger number of patients from Burleigh, Morton, and Stark counties correlates with the centers of population in the primary Bismarck service area. The secondary and tertiary service area of Bismarck’s medical facilities extends into the neighboring counties of both South Dakota and Montana, as well as northern and eastern counties of North Dakota.
